The locomotive was originally ordered by Fyffes for the Cameroon Development Corporation, being one of a batch of four locomotives produced by Hunslet to an earlier Kerr, Stuart design called ‘Tamar’.
The locomotive arrived at Statfold in 2017 after being displayed at Banana Plantation for several years.
In addition to a full restoration, the locomotive has been converted to burn oil using 21st-century steam technology from FMW Solutions, a company based in the United States of America. This enables the locomotive to be used as a test bed for burning different oils, including organic oils.
Graham Lee, Chairman of the Statfold Narrow Gauge Museum Trust, said, “It was important for our Trust to ensure that our locomotives continue to run for generations to come, and it was felt that oil firing was the way forward. We could have used older oil-firing technology, but we felt that with the guidance of FMW Solutions, we could bring 21st-century technology to the table to increase the efficiency of the oil burners and to use organic waste oil ideally.”
A photo of the locomotive will be available on the week commencing the 1st June and will be distributed. However, if you keep an eye on the Statfold Barn Railway & Museum Facebook page, certain photos will be released in the lead-up to that week.
