The Statfold Barn Railway features 3 different track sizes, ranging from 12 ¼ to 2 feet gauge. All aboard for unlimited rides along the award winning railway or journey down to our woodland trail on our miniature Mease Valley Light Railway.
Graham and Carol Lee bought Statfold Barn Farm in 1987 and set about developing and improving the property, part of which included the construction of our narrow-gauge railway which opened to the public fully in 2017.
The 2-foot gauge railway today consists of 4 stations beginning with Statfold Junction, then moving on to Strawberry Park Platform, Oak Tree Halt and Cogan Halt before circling the Balloon Loop back to Oak Tree Halt.
In 2022 the team here at Statfold Country Park began working on a new line to add to Statfold Barn Railway known as Mease Valley Light Railway. This light railway runs at 12 ¼ gauge and consists of 4 further stations in addition to the 2-foot gauge railway including Mease Valley Light Railway, Mallard Halt, Oak Tree Halt and finally Warren Hill, construction is underway for further development.
Both railways are used on our open days and can run both steam and diesel engines.
All Aboard for a Milestone Moment!
This year marks a significant milestone for the Statfold Barn Railway – 20 years of steam, smiles, and unforgettable rides. From its humble beginnings as a private passion project to becoming one of the UK’s most cherished narrow-gauge railways, Statfold has come a long way – and the tracks ahead are just as exciting.
Founded in 2005 by Graham Lee, the railway began as a way to preserve and operate historic locomotives from around the world. What started as a private collection has grown into a vibrant destination for railway enthusiasts, families, and curious adventurers of all ages. With an ever-growing fleet of beautifully restored steam and diesel engines, a World-renowned museum, and a calendar packed with lively events, Statfold has become a place where history comes alive.
Over the past two decades, we’ve welcomed thousands of visitors to share in the magic of narrow-gauge rail travel. We’ve seen smiles on young faces and watched railway fans of all ages marvel at our internationally significant collection of locomotives.
We’re proud of our journey, but more than anything, we’re grateful – to our passionate volunteers, our loyal visitors, and our railway community who make everything possible. As we steam into the next chapter, we invite you to be part of the celebration.
Here’s to 20 years of Statfold – and many more to come!
