Statfold Country Park Trust and Partnerships

THE TRUST AND PARTNERSHIPS

Statfold Country Park and the Statfold Narrow Gauge Museum Trust are very grateful to the many individuals who have visited, assisted and helped us over the years, we would not be where we are now without you.

As a charitable trust, Statfold Narrow Gauge Museum exists to build and maintain the Statfold Barn Railway Collection and to make it accessible to current and future generations, through the maintenance and selective operation of historic locomotives and rolling stock and through sharing the worldwide stories that the collection can tell with the widest possible audience. We can only do this with the support from our visitors and guests attending our fundraising events. These events are identified across our website with our Statfold Fundraising Icon.

The museum exists to build and maintain the Statfold Barn Railway Collection and to make it accessible for current and future generations through maintenance and selective operations. We also aim to share the worldwide stories that the collection can tell with the widest possible audience.

Our Vision

Statement from our

Graham Lee

(Chairman)

“Well, my mission statement remains the same. The locomotives that you see here have been saved from around the world and have all been painstakingly restored by the Statfold team of expert craftsmen and women. Some of the locomotives were thought the be beyond restoration but our skilled team have brought them back to life.

Although most of the companies and individuals who originally created them have long gone, the skills live on and will continue through the Statfold Narrow Gauge Museum Trust to ensure the long-term preservation of the collection for the enjoyment of generations to come.

Whilst maintaining the historic skills necessary to keep the locomotives running, we also embrace new technology where appropriate. The team continues to train new engineers to be able to continue the Statfold legacy.
Please enjoy our railway and the collection.”

Trust Partnerships

The Statfold Narrow Gauge Museum Trust Ltd is currently partnered with two other amazing trusts including Transport Museum Wythall and The Fairground Heritage Trust. Read more about these fantastic charities below.

Transport Museum Wythall

Since 2022 we have been in partnership with Transport Museum Wythall, one of the most outstanding transport museums in the UK, located on the outskirts of Birmingham in Wythall close to Junction 3 of the M42.

The museum was originally set up by the Birmingham and Midland Motor Omnibus Trust in 1977 as a registered charity. The museum site based in Chapel Lane, was later acquired in February 1978.

The museum halls now accommodate one of the country’s most significant collections of preserved buses. Transport Museum Wythall follows the history of the corporation fleets and their manufacturers across the west midlands through the decades. In addition to buses, they have two Birmingham fire engines and one of the finest collections of restored battery electric vehicles in the world.

On site, you will also find a delightful miniature steam railway, constructed and operated by the Elmdon Model Engineering Society. Transport Museum Wythall, a registered Charity Incorporated Organisation, operates the museum.

Mainly open weekends between April and October, with additional selected dates during school holidays. They also hold events throughout the year, showcasing their collection and often visiting buses.

Here at Statfold Country Park, they run shuttle buses at selected events between us and Tamworth. That’s not all, at some of our automotive and enthusiast events they display several of their buses with local connections and run countryside tours for our visitors.

The Fairground Heritage Trust

In March 2024, a new partnership was formed with The Fairground Heritage Trust. This was created after the Fairground Heritage Trust decided to close its Dingles Fairground Museum for many different factors.

An agreement was reached with The Fairground Heritage Trust to move the majority of their fantastic collection to a new area within Statfold Country Park. This will see us take on the day-to-day operations management of the museum and rides. The Fairground Heritage Trust will remain as the owner of the collection with responsibility for conservation and curation.

The Fairground Heritage Trust aims to preserve historic fairground equipment, imagery and memorabilia for future generations, in the hope of fostering an understanding of, and support for, a genuinely national institution.

As a vital part of leisure in this country, the Fairground Heritage Trust believes that fairgrounds have played just as important a role as any other type of popular entertainment in shaping today’s society.

The Fairground Heritage Trust has been successful in building up a large collection of rides and fairground-related artefacts, many of key historical significance.
