Key Stage 3 at Statfold Country Park
Our education programme is tailored to meet the national curriculum, whilst our interactive sessions and exciting activities on site will ensure that our young visitors will have fun during their visit!

Due to the national curriculum being subject to change we regularly review our sessions to deliver to your needs. If you have any specific requirements, please talk to us as we may be able to adapt or tailor our current provision. We also welcome any suggestions for new sessions!
Your visit will begin at 10:30am and finish at approximately 2pm. The timetable will include your bespoke workshops that last 30 to 60 minutes, depending on which visit you are taking part in and a ride on a steam train to end the fun. We also offer a large indoor lunch area for you to use for packed lunches along with plenty of toilet facilities. Teachers are welcome to tea and coffee at any time during your visit.
What workshops are available for KS3?
1. Motion and force – experimenting with maths on the railway
Learners will take a look through history to use formulae to work out the average speed of a narrow-gauge engine compared to some of the earlier locomotives. Analyse which forces are in action on the railway, commenting on the balance and impact of forces on the locomotive in action. At Statfold you can engage with the scientific aspects within a safe environment. Learners will present their observations and data using appropriate methods, including tables and graphs, showing how they have used and devised simple equations.

2. Locomotives around the world
We have lots of locomotives from around the world! Use our self-led worksheets to work out the continents where our locomotives have worked and seas where our locos potentially crossed on their international travels. Closer to home, look at the United Kingdom and tell us which of our locomotives worked where. See the differences in locomotives that worked in hot and cold parts of the world, and what industries the locos worked in!
